Why everything here is out of register

The three-way channel split is a screen artefact rather than a print one: it comes from video that has been copied, compressed and re-uploaded, which is how most people now see anything. Using it deliberately admits the medium instead of pretending the page is paper. The vessels are drawn in outline rather than photographed, so the only photographic thing in the frame is the leaf, and the eye goes to it by contrast. Black grounds make the split read as neon and white grounds make it read as a misprint, and both versions are kept because the same design meets two different feeds. Chinese tea has a long life in the slow register, and this shop asks whether it survives the fast one. Captions are three words long, in lowercase, because that is the length a caption gets before it is scrolled past.
