Why black, gold and angular

A pressed nugget of tea is a hard faceted object, closer to a machined part than to anything soft, and that is why this shop is cut from one black hexagon: carbon weave for the field, a honeycomb behind it, diagonal edges finished with gold bevels, one yellow shard against the symmetry. Condensed slanted type keeps every line on the same diagonal as the panel. The facets hold photographs rather than renderings; what sits inside the metal is the tea that goes into the tin, shot by us. The design grammar is borrowed from the way Lamborghini draws its cars, and the company is not involved in this shop and does not stand behind it. Beneath the metal the offer is plain: thirty-four Chinese teas, and clothing printed with the same panel.
