Chinese tea · doubled, folded, out of step
Thirty-four Chinese teas inside gold baroque frames that repeat out of step, with the object doubled and the garment twisted so the print runs off its fold.

Repetition that lands imperfectly is the whole method: the frame doubles, the banner folds and reprints the name at a new angle, the garment is twisted so the graphic breaks across the fold. Tea gets the same treatment in real life, since the same leaf is pressed, broken, re-pressed and sold again under a slightly different name each time. Gold acanthus is used because it is the most conventional ornament available, and conventional ornament is the only kind worth dislocating. The leaf photograph stays undistorted at the centre while everything around it slips, so the product is the fixed point. Black grounds keep the metal ornament legible and let dark tea disappear into the page except where the light catches it. It is a shop about the same object seen twice and never quite agreeing with itself.
